2024 Catcat’s Black Friday Order Log (Continuously Updated)

2024-11-29

This year’s Black Friday feels noticeably weaker than previous years. With the global economy slowing down, fewer and fewer providers are launching truly tempting Black Friday deals.

Special criticism for Hetzner — a real Black Friday jump scare. US locations have gone up in price across the board, and bandwidth has been brutally cut from 20T down to 1T. I’d just finished migrating some K8S nodes to Hetzner US, and the costs shot up overnight.

OVH: 😆 Netcup: 😆

Famous quote:

一个账号一个鸡 | One chicken per account
付款只能用批批 | PayPal payments only
超过伍刀别买鸡 | Don’t buy if above five dollars
判定停权就争议 | Dispute if account restricted
白嫖半年免费鸡 | Free chicken for half a year
删号删鸡不扎心 | No worries if account or chicken deleted
不买黄牛溢价鸡 | Don’t buy overpriced chicken from scalpers
无脑直冲是傻逼 | Only idiots buy without thinking

[tip type=“danger” title=“警告”]This is not a recommendation; it just records what I’ve personally bought so far.[/tip]

Current total spend: €8 + $24 + $7

A big German box I’ve been eyeing for quite a while. The provider is a bit stingy with bandwidth, but with Cloudflare caching it’s generally enough. Back when the 3rd-gen Milan promos were running, I already wanted to grab one to play with, but I held off until Black Friday.

As expected, they launched two new models: AMD EPYC 9654 and AMD 9900X. Looking at the overall specs, the price‑performance ratio is excellent, and it’s said these machines were freshly purchased by the owner. The datacenter is the same as bero’s. During checkout, you can choose Linux or Windows — they’re on different virtualization stacks: Linux gets KVM, Windows gets Hyper‑V.

[tip type=“danger” title=“注意”]Currently only balance payments are supported. Be cautious with annual billing.[/tip]

My chosen configuration:

  • 6x AMD EPYC 9654 Cores
  • 24 GB DDR5 RAM
  • 300 GB PCIe 5.0 NVME storage space
  • 1 IPv4 address
  • /64-IPv6 subnet
  • 2 Gbit/s (Shared)
  • 3 Backup Slots
  • Price: €8.00/month (€ 80.00/yr)

I’ll talk about performance later. The machine has just been provisioned, and everyone is hammering it with YABS right now, so benchmarks don’t mean much yet.

Nothing special to say here — just renewing. I use the Luxembourg location as a reverse proxy and for DMCA resistance; it’s cheap and works well.

Spent $24.

I also find this one to have great value for money: $7/year for 500 GB. It’s more than enough as a small image hosting service or general storage box. But because the value proposition is so strong, many people have ordered and are actively using it, and the node is obviously hitting bottlenecks. I’d guess the owner is swamped dealing with this product line and barely participated in this year’s Black Friday.

Spent $7.
